About me

Laura De Beir

I am a clinical psychologist and a psychoanalytic therapist in training, in private practice in Bruges. What drives me in this work is the encounter, grounded in an ethic: each of us is a subject who can never be fully known or pinned down, but whose speech and desire deserve room.

Psychoanalytic ethics starts from the idea that every person has a logic of their own, woven into the wider story of their life, and explores what place, function or meaning a difficulty may have within it. The work does not follow treatment plans that aim to remove symptoms as quickly as possible without pausing on what they mean and the role they play in someone's life. A symptom is read as a signal within the complexity of being human, not as an isolated problem. Psychoanalytic therapy aims to make it possible for someone to relate in their own way to their difficulties, their desire and their life history, so that suffering no longer lives their life for them, and they can take an active stance towards it and, as a subject, give direction to their own life again. This is the attitude from which I make room for your story.
